I’m adding another website to the huge list of sites I already own but rarely maintain.

I love the site makewords.com for finding domains but this time I’m sticking with a thesaurus and my brainstorming notes.

I’m going to make a product review website. I already host a product review site with a specific focus. The new site won’t be exclusive. My new site will range from Appliances to Socks and from Facilities to Experiences; Anything I have paid for. Products of life.

I like talking about products. I like building websites. I’m not the kind of person to create a profile on an existing popular review website and visit regularly.

Here’s the list of domain names I searched that were available today and my comments:

whereicomplain.com – negative

thecomplaindomain.com – negative

productsoflife.com

lifeismerchandise.com

thegoodthebadandthe.com

thegoodsthebadsandtheugly.com – negative

thegoodsimpression.com – stupid

I don’t like any of these of course but I’ll figure something out soon enough and add another domain to my list.

I purchase 2-5 domain names each month. Only a few get cancelled after the initial one-year contract. Only a few have ever sold.

Ok, between typing sentances <–one of the only words I cannot spell after decades of typing… I bought productsoflife.com. ‘Doubt that’ll be the new site’s name but it’s motivational. Only problem is, logging in to my domain registrar and seeing the list of domains, each representing an idea for a website, was almost painful. There is so much to do and no time or income to sustain my desire to express myself.

That’s the error message I kept getting at 1&1.com while trying to update my DNS settings recently: “The name server is not sufficient or hasn’t been approved.”

I read a few posts which seemed unrelated except to mention the peculiarities with 1&1’s system.

My solution: try, try again. …which worked.

Updating DNS settings can be stressful. As soon as my domain resolves to the new server I breathe a huge sigh of relief. I figure the problem happened because this week’s updates were important to me.

This morning I had only one domain left to update, so I tried again, 1&1 served an error message, I tried again, error, tried again and it worked – all within less than a minute. [other attempts didn't work for hours but "try, try again" worked for each, eventually.]

I’ve used 1&1 webhosting for many years now and have quite a load of domains with them. Granted they have their own backend software which is unusual relative to a plesk or cpanel interface but all in all I haven’t experienced too many delays, problems or lack of response.

In 2008, I moved my hosting accounts from 1&1 to Hostgator.com for added features at the same cost. Hostgator allows wildcard DNS for WordpressMu sites.
